At Resident Genius, we like websites that are intuitive, functional, and easy on the eyes...so that's how we try to build them. Our languages of choice are HTML, CSS, PHP, and Javascript (we're morally opposed to Flash except for video delivery). While we've been known to do the occasional site or blog, web applications are our first love and we definitely see the future of computing in the cloud.

In 2009, Resident Genius produced a two day online event targeted at recent high school grads. We took the original course content (created by Pastor Chace Gordon of Cornerstone World Outreach) and supplemented it with material by Dan Smithwick, David Wheaton, and nationally syndicated columnist Ben Shapiro. The final product consisted of six 45 minutes sessions which we streamed to churches across the country using Flash Media Server 3.5.

In our most recent collaboration with Cornerstone World Outreach, we helped set the tone for a building campaign which explained the duties of the local church. While our focus was production, RG's own Mark Nauroth did step in front of the camera for an interview about Christians in the entertainment industry.

After spending some time with a youth group in Southern California, we began developing a web application to streamline the administration of the ministry. The original database management system quickly grew to accomodate the Facebook and Twilio APIs, resulting in a powerful ministry management tool that is social and intuitive. Skriibe is currently in private beta. Public beta is scheduled for the second quarter of 2011.

Most of our free time is spent working with the student ministry at a non-denominational church in Orange County, California. Even in the current economic climate, we've found afforable ways to improve workflows and introduce fresh media to the program. Our collaboration with the organization is far from over, but we're already well on our way to creating a unique image that resonates with students and parents alike.

If you haven't noticed, we really like projects that involve college students. Maybe it's because we're all twenty-somethings, or it could be because college ministry is all about clean lines, sans serif typefaces, and wry humor. Either way, it makes for some sweet designs. From 2003 to 2006, Resident Genius helped one of the largest children's organizations in the Midwest prepare their curriculum for mass market. We built on their framework and added new levels of interactivity through rich media and compelling storytelling. The result was a one-of-a-kind program which has faciltated the growth of an already thriving ministry.
